What Are Hand Grips, And How To Wear Them

These Bear KompleX hand grips are similar to hand guards used by gymnasts on the high bar and rings.

To attach them, put three fingers through the holes and fasten the strap around your wrist.

I have a confession to make…there were no instructions, so I accidentally wore the right grip on the left hand and vice versa when I was photographed. I later discovered that the L-shaped cutaway is for the flesh of the thumb.

My Experience With Other Gloves And Hand Guards

I have a pile of gloves and hand guards that I’ve tried and not liked.

I’ve found gloves with nice padding on the palm, but once you start swinging they tend to move around. If I try something with a false grip, they just ruck up.

I also tried some hand guards from a different manufacturer. One pair was really soft and thin, but offered very little protection. The other hand guard was made from a thicker leather, but it was hard, and caused pain between my fingers when I closed them around the bar.

How The Bear KompleX 3 Hole Hand Grips Compare

These feel like a  high quality product. The palms are reasonably thick, but feel soft—a great combination.

I recently tore off chunks of my hand when swinging on a wooden bar, wearing no hand protection—it’s been taking a few weeks to regrow the skin and I’m still not fully healed yet.

My hands are still recovering, but I put on the Bear KompleX and did a minute of alternating one-arm kettlebell swings with 24KG—my grip felt responsive.

I then did a set of kipping muscle ups, and found them comfortable to use. There was no damage to my hand. I’ll be trying them out again for a more serious workout.

Size

Take the time to measure your palm correctly using the sizing chart on the Bear KompleX website, so you achieve a snug fit.
