If you’re anything like me, you’re a busy mum who spends most of their time in jogging tights and trainers, as they’re just so comfortable and practical. 🙂 When you wear activewear that makes you look good, such as those from Fabletics, you just seem to feel more positive and motivated…and more likely to work out.
In a study published in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, they introduced the term “Enclothed Cognition” to describe how clothes influence your behaviour.1
In the experiment, they discovered that simply wearing a lab coat increased attention. Whilst a lab coat might not be your everyday gear, in an interview with The Atlantic, one of the authors of the study, Adam, said…
“It’s all about the symbolic meaning that you associate with a particular item of clothing.”
Adam thinks the results of the study can be applied to many more fields, including activewear and fitness. “I think it would make sense that when you wear athletic clothing, you become more active and more likely to go to the gym and work out.”
This week, I was really excited to open a parcel of stylish sportswear from Fabletics.
The brand was co-founded by Kate Hudson — American actress and mother of two. They offer stylish, high quality activewear. There’s a fun commercial about Fabletics, showing Kate tyre flipping, doing sled pulls and using battle ropes…she is slender but strong! She says that Fabletics is “Cute styles, girls are gonna love.” I have to agree with that.
Fabletics—How Does It Work
Simply take the questionnaire on the “Get Started” link, to identify your preferences and to come up with outfit suggestions.
The system assumes you’d like to sign up for the VIP membership, which entitles you up to 50% off their clothes!
Now armed with your preferences, each month the Fabletics VIPs receive a handpicked stylish selection of looks, at members-only pricing. You can either make a purchase, or indicate that you will skip this selection. There’s no obligation to buy every month, and you can skip as many months as you like (provided you do so by the 5th of the month).
Alternatively, you can opt out, to buy a one off outfit as a Guest, at higher prices. However if you usually buy sportswear most months then it makes sense to take the VIP membership.
About The Photoshoot
I’m lucky enough to live in an area with plenty of outstanding countryside, in Surrey, England. So we went for a walk in a local forest, taking photos as we went along.
The sun was shining, but it was a deceptively chilly 14°C! So as I was barely wearing anything most of the time, I put on a knee length winter puffa jacket between shots, to keep warm. 🙂
The costume changes were a little awkward, in the back of a Discovery Land Rover with blacked out windows for privacy. Luckily we only met one dog walker during the photoshoot.
The Yukon dress is made of a soft polyester/elastane sweatshirt material, so it’s really comfy.
I’ll be wearing it during Autumn and Winter, with a pair of tights or leggings when it gets colder. It’s great to wear when lounging around the house, and also looking good on the school run.
There are two handy pockets at the front, and a hood at the back. It was the correct fit for the size, but I have quite a small waist, so it wasn’t quite as tapered on me. It’s very cosy and comfortable though.
The Erin Tank is made of a really soft fabric that feels lovely, once you work out how to put it on…I had to refer back to the picture on the website. 🙂 It shows off a lot of back, which is nice with the intricate sports bras that they sell.
I wouldn’t wear the tank to exercise in – it is more of a top you could wear to the office with some leggings, and then whip it off at the gym after work, to reveal your sports bra. Stylish and convenient.
The Clover Leggings have really interesting detail. They’re like a normal pair of running tights at the top, but as you move down the leg there’s a stretchy mesh material over some nice green patterns.
Just below the knees are mesh panels showing bare skin, which feel pretty durable. They look really beautiful, but are close fitting, comfortable and functional to wear. I need to find more outfits to wear them with. 🙂
I wore the black Erin Tank, but the Clover Leggings also look great paired with the green tank.
Lenni Sports Bra in Viridian
This is a very pretty sports bra. There are spaghetti strap details on the front and back, giving you a bit of a cleavage if you wear it without a gym top.
It looked really nice with the Erin Tank, as it’s drooping back allowed you to see the back straps. It’s described as providing medium support, and I agree with that. I feel comfortable lifting weights in these, or doing yoga, but I wouldn’t want to do much running or anything high impact for a long duration.
So throw out those saggy bottomed track suits, and buy yourself an outfit that will make you feel good and more motivated to exercise.
I was gifted a Yukon Dress, Erin Tank, Lenni Sports Bra and Clover Leggings by Fabletics. All views and opinions are my own. For more information about my collaborations, please refer to my DISCLOSURE page on the ABOUT tab. I was not paid to write this post.
